A sell-out audience of over 3,000 people from all over Ireland, the UK and further afield attended an epic performance of Handel’s Messiah on Saturday last at the Knock Basilica. In attendance were both His Excellency Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, Papal Nuncio and the Most Rev Michael Neary DD, Archbishop of Tuam.

Messiah to be performed at Knock Basilica for the first time

The trumpet shall sound on November 18 in Knock with the Basilica’s inaugural performance of Handel’s Messiah, the world’s most famous and beloved oratorio, renowned for stunning choruses and arias. Following last year’s sell-out performance of the Concert for Peace, attended by the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins and Sabina Higgins, Knock Basilica has announced the return of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to present Handel’s Messiah.

Mayo choirs shine in National Concert Hall

Mayo was well represented in the National Concert Hall on Saturday last February 4, when the multi-award winning choirs Cór Mhaigh Eo, Ballina Chamber Choir and soprano Anne-Marie Gibbons joined forces with the RTE Concert Orchestra and Dun Laoghaire Choral Society, to perform Karl Jenkins epic masterpiece, The Armed Man.

St Colman's students receive Pope John Paul II awards

Students from St Colman’s College, Claremorris, received their Pope John Paul II awards in Knock Basilica recently. It was a wonderful night of celebration of all the great work done by so many young people across the Archdiocese of Tuam over the past 12 months.

Marbhna will commemorate all who died in 1916

A Requiem Mass with music composed by Odhran O Casaide and featuring the voice of Sibéal Ní Casaide, to commemorate all those who died in 1916, will take place in Knock Basilica this Sunday, November 6 at 12pm. The special Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Brendan Kelly, Bishop of Achonry.
